I have been roasting for years. It is worth it to the effect that you can buy better quality beans and ensure they are fresh. Once you start roasting you won't want to buy the $6lb beans for long once you taste the better quality stuff available.Jimmy wrote:So who has roasted their own beans? What's the advantage? Can you store green beans for a long time and roast a pound once a week or something like that? Not really looking at doing it anytime soon, just wondering what the benefits are.
I started roasting in a popcorn popper. They work well, you just have to stir manually. They are messy with the chaff blowing around, so it's an outside thing.
Nowadays I use a Behmor 1600. It works well, and is consistent. It won't really go beyond full city though. You can cheat it by preheating for a minute then resetting it.
