Are you willing to ship it Nick? There's a pretty active Pavoni FB group that may have some people looking for a project, but none local.

Can anyone recommend a good and reasonably priced manual grinder? I know they're worth it but I just can't bring myself to pay $200 or more for an electric one.

Javablend has a few to choose from on the shelf. The Hario has a really good reputation and should great for espresso, not sure about other cheaper ones.

I've got one of these from JB: https://www.amazon.ca/Hario-Ceramic-Ske ... B001802PIQ I don't use it for my espresso, but know people that do and have no issues with consistency once you get it dialed in. So long as you're just doing 1-2 shots worth of beans you should be fine but for more than that it can be a bit slow going.

i've never used them for a proper espresso machine, but the hario's I've used have never let me down. I prefer the skerton over the mini mill slim (though i keep the latter with my camping gear; perfect for that). The skerton also has a mod (small piece of plastic) that can be attached to hold the burrs in place from the bottom as well as the top. helps keep grind size consistent with larger grinds (french press i mostly noticed it).

as bobby said, it would be super pain in the ass to grind more than one or two shots with it. Coarse grinding is pretty fast, fine grinds take quite a while.

Anybody own a Breville BES870XL - the Barista Express?

edit
and if so, what are your thoughts on it? Thanks.

I've got the be920xl (the "double boiler") and it has worked great until recently (after about 2 years) - I think it has a steam leak so I just have to find the time to disassemble it and replace a bunch of o-rings. In the meantime I've slapped an out of order sticker on it and am stuck drinking chemex coffee.

Leave out the radishs and clover and it will BE CHEAP. However, by leaving out the clover you will most definatly have to maintain the plot next year.
bot gone rogue?
