Re: Good Lump Charcoal
That's a super detailed review. Amazing that someone sorted every piece.
Looks similar to Cabby's stuff.

Re: Good Lump Charcoal
Amazon also carries Fogo which is apparently from the same company. A bit more expensive, but looks like it might be slightly better quality.

Re: Good Lump Charcoal
Naked Whiz has a review for that one too. Seems as if it's not as good overall.
Cabby's stuff is good but more suited to restaurant grills and low and slow cooks. Case in point, I do a lot of quick steak cooks and the like. It's harder to light and takes considerably longer to get going, no doubt because of the density.

Re: Good Lump Charcoal
This.
I like cabby's stuff for my usual 350 f or lower cooking. If I'm into searing, I'd load up with a less dense brand.

Re: Good Lump Charcoal
I had seen that, but in looking at the rating list the Fogo got recommended and the standard Kebroak just got above average. I guess it depends on what you're looking for. The Fogo appears to have had larger chunks and a longer burn time then the Kebroak.NASH wrote:Naked Whiz has a review for that one too. Seems as if it's not as good overall.

Re: Good Lump Charcoal
Yes, for me that means harder to light and slower to get up to temp. The portion of the reviews on lump size percentages can be mostly moot, I think. It's got to depend on if bags are being filled off the top or bottom of the pile, so in general I disregard itjeffsmith wrote:I had seen that, but in looking at the rating list the Fogo got recommended and the standard Kebroak just got above average. Re: Good Lump Charcoal
LOL, me too. 2 bags left of cabbies left for me. Good to know that Costco is bringing it back in, although I have no idea if the SJ store has it yet. At least I'm good for a little while yet.jeffsmith wrote:I've still got 3 bags left. Hoardin' like a mutherfucker.

I'm almost through my last bag. Costco tomorrow. If some one is out that way I will take 2 and pick up tomorrow.

Re: Good Lump Charcoal
Costco has Basques Lump on sale again - $9.49/ 8kg bag. I got 3 bags in Bayer's Lake on Tuesday... then went to Home Depot and picked up a Weber One Touch Gold.

Hoping it doesn't mean they are clearing out stock this early in the season.
