Just put in 132 tomato starters, mostly heirlooms, some rare.
7 more trays to go.

I'm in an official state of depression over my lack of action on my garden....

Did you buy the seeds, or pic them up from other people?

I usually start my seeds the latter part of March, but will have to wait until early May this year since I'll be away.

I have a pretty good seed bank going.
Halifax Seed has a great selection. The rare heirlooms are from https://www.sunshinefarm.net/eshop/catalog
Heritage Harvest has a lot of rare seed too, as does Annapolis seeds.

I harvest what I can for seeds every year.
Can hook you up with a bunch of San Marzano and Organic Roma seeds if you need. I have lots of those. Also have lots of Oregano seed that I harvested, that stuff was a bugger to thresh being so tiny.

Harvesting Tomato seeds easy. You put the seeds in a jar of water and let the protective gel pod around the seed ferment away for a couple of weeks. Then wash and dry them. They get a pretty nasty pellicle!

Might be a little early for tomatoes. I have always found 8 weeks out was just right for starting toms.

I did start the peppers this week end and also some basil. Its still a bit early to start basil for the garden but it grows really well in the light garden so this will be for consumption before summer.

I'm growing garlic for the first time this year; planted 4 varieties in early November, 3 from Boundary Garlic in BC and one from a work colleague who's been growing (and selecting) the same strain since her childhood in Wiarton, ON. If I'm successful I should have some cloves to share for next year.

I have raised beds and use black plastic mulch. My beds are ready 2 weeks earlier than most...
Am also toying around with the idea of doing a hot bed this year with some fresh manure in the bottom of the beds. That will be a lot of work though.
The fresh manure composts under the soil and heats it up through convection.
I really do need a mini excavator...

Even with the higher soil temps you must still have to keep an eye out for frost. How do you protect them?
