Does anyone know where to find vegetarian thai red curry paste? Anything I saw here has fish/shrimp in it.

Thanks!
Keely.

I suggest making your own, just use an extra 1/4 tsp of salt in place of the shrimp paste. Also, you can use kaffir lime leaves instead of the zest, you can buy everything else at the one of the Asian markets in hfx. Possibly at Pete's too but his prices on things like lime leaves are infuckingsanedotcom.

I've been cooking a lot of Thai food lately, and one of the best places I've seen for authentic ingredients is Tian Phat grocery on the Bedford Highway. It's a treasure trove for anything Asian. They have kafir like leaves there. Frozen, but they still have that distinctive aroma.

Anyone have any idea where to find Kaffir limes?

Haven't found any yet so I'd sub with leaves. Tian Phat is great, couple of the others are pretty solid as well. :cheers2:

There's a fantastic Indian grocers on Robie Street. They have everything you need for a fantastic curry from scratch and they have mixes and pastes. Good selection of daal and pickles. There's also an Asian grocers at the very bottom of Queen Street just past Sobeys called Ca Hoa. Me and my wife used to shop there all the time when we lived in the city. I recently picked up a kilo bag of Red Thai Curry paste there. (Not vegetarian though, sorry!)

gotta say, hit up that asian market on Chebucto and got their red curry paste and dried kaffir leaves. Did a pretty simple insta pot recipe to try it out and it was a game changer. Excited to try the kaffir leaves in other recipes now.

For something simple: a couple kaffir leaves with a couple cups of basmati rice in a rice cooker or streamer is pretty darned tastey. It would be good with Minute Rice too when added with the boiling water.
