Brew pot size??

Post by wader98 » Wed Jun 03, 2015 10:11 pm

Looking to start brewing some 2.5 gallon batches as it would take me forever to get thru 5 gallons...
i've picked up 2 x 5 gallon round Coleman coolers which i will convert one into a mash tun...my question is : i'm in need of a boil kettle but not sure what size i will require for the 2.5G batches. I have access to a free 4 Gallon pot but will that be enough or should i go to a 5 gallon pot?

4gallon should do it but you'll be running close to the rim. I used to brew a 5 gallon batch by putting half in a 4gal pot, half in a 5gal pot. You'll just have to be super careful of boilovers

If you had to buy one, I'd get a 5gallon, but if you have a 4 gallon handy just run a test batch or two and see how you like it!
