hallertau vs magnum

Post by MitchK » Wed Dec 23, 2015 7:09 am

So for styles like berliner weiss, weizen, or a belgian dubbel that basically just call for a single bittering charge of hallertau at the beginning of the boil and no other hops... Could I get away with using a (smaller due to higher AA%) charge of magnum instead? It would work out a lot cheaper rather than using a relatively low AA% aroma hop to bitter styles that really aren't about the hops...

Certainly could in my opinion. Especially since magnum is a hybrid of hallertauer. Should have very similar bittering profile.
