Arrived today...man, it's going to take me all night just to go through all the parts and make sure they are here!

Re: Brewha 3-in-1 kettle & jacketed conical (BIAC)
I'm just getting things sorted out now..there's a lot of hardware with this..2 of the casters were damaged in transport, but they are sending me replacements at no charge.
I'm not sure how I'll clean deep into the cone on this..it's far enough down that I can't reach by hand. It will likely require a CIP setup of some sort - I was hoping to avoid that, but we will see after the first brew.
Those who have assembled their own elements. Did you just use teflon tape on the threads, or did you use sealing compound (http://www.homedepot.ca/product/1-oz-pi ... lon/967137" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) on the threads as well?
Also, where would one go about getting heat conductive compound that would be suitable to place inside the thermowell to eliminate air space surrounding the temperature sensor?

Looking good!
Thermowell; just twist the ends of the thermocouple wire together, bend them over and slide all the way in to the well to ensure contact. Damn 'thermal grease' and probes, not needed at all for something so simple.

There's already a probe on the end of the wire. It should be good without the grease even though there's a probe? Or would you suggest the grease since there's a probe on the end?

I use teflon tape for stuff I need to handle, the compound can be messy. I've never used thermal compound, nor seen it used on the hundreds of temps we look after at work.

Teflon is an insulator. While it does have a higher thermal conductivity than air, it's much lower than any typical thermal grease...
For what it's worth, unlike Robert's workplace, we use thermal grease for ALL critical temperature measurements (also have to calculate the loss based on thermal resistance of the compound).

The teflon tape is a sealant on pipe threads, no insulation value.

Re: Brewha 3-in-1 kettle & jacketed conical (BIAC)
Excellent electrical insulator, not so awesome thermal insulator. However it's thermal conductivity is poor - hence my statement it's more of an insulator than a conductor. At any rate, if you're using it to improve contact in a thermowell, I don't think quite doing what you intend, albeit it's better than free air, just not nearly as good as the grease.
Thermal conductivity in k - W/(m.K)
Air = 0.024
Teflon = 0.25
Thermal Grease that I have on my desk = 15

Re: Brewha 3-in-1 kettle & jacketed conical (BIAC)
It's not for thermal use. Teflon tape is used to keep npt threads from leaking. Afaiac, thermal grease isn't of much value in a process where the mass being measured is not flowing, and is much larger than the well. But it won't hurt...
