Update: The price this year is $1.20/L.

What a steal.

I'm looking for a clean apple taste, semi-dry at best. A friend says he gets good results back sweetening with Xylitol, though the stuff is expensive. Any suggestions for a yeast?

I've had good luck with US-05 for apple cider. Nice and clean and will get fairly dry, but not so much that it'll require back sweetening.

Have you tried talking to Boats Farm? They produce apple and pear cider and are local. In the past I have bought 23L buckets full for $18. Contact Brian Boates bb@xcoiuntry.tv or phone:

Anyone know if this is still available in the city? Anyone plan on doing a Perry this year?

I'd be up for fermenting a cider.

I popped them an email for information on availability/pricing this year.

I'm sure Mike and Kim would be in for a few gallons as well. I'd be in for 40 liters.

I'm interested in doing a cider and/or perry so count me in on whatever we can find.

Going to be another week or two before they're making the pear/apple cider mixture. Not sure on pricing though.

You just take a bucket down to them and they bring it back filled the next weekend

Fermenting: black ipa
Conditioning:
Kegged: barrel barleywine from 2014 - i think i still have this somewhere

Yup, or you can go direct to their location in the valley.

For sure. And as it is unpasteurized juice, that is the best way to get the yeast to it right away

Who and where are they? Are you referring to the pear tree at Hollis and Morris?

As per the rest of the thread, I was referring to boates farm. They have a stand at the brewery market, or they did last fall when I made a cider.
