Ah, sorry, I didn't know Brew House Pale Ale was a Festabrew. Not sure if they'll darken over time like a liquid extract or not.Tony L wrote:HopGrower wrote:Liquid extracts will darken over time. The longer the can has been sitting on the shelf, the darker the beer. I'm guessing you've probably bought an old can.
He was using Festa kits which are all wort, not extract kits.

My bad. He WAS using Brew House (and not Festa) kits which still are concentrated to a degree, but not like the canned extract. I doubt they will darken like LME would.
I still think it is just because it hadn't started fermenting yet and it looked dark through the plastic. Bet it is the colour it is supposed to be when it is finished.

Re: Beer Turned Black!!
UPDATE
Both are now the exact same colour............. dark when they are supposed to be light
It had nothing to do with the lack of fermentation. Both batches blew the lids off my fermenters and in 1 case I had foam all over my table. They are now sitting in carboys ready to keg. I drew some off during the transfer and put into my wine thief and it looks fine and tastes fine. The original pic is interesting where both batches were made within minutes of one another and one was dark and the other light.

Re: Beer Turned Black!!
It probably just looks dark in the bucket. Look at it in a glass and see what you think of it. This can be pretty deceptive if you're not used to it. One likely looked lighter than the other in the first photos because there were a lot of suspended yeast - they've settled now so it looks darker.vansrv7a wrote:UPDATE
