Re: The Conical Thread
Nice, coming along I see.
I got a fridge today. Upon picking it up I swore it would be too small. I took off the inside of the door and it barely fits. It's not the most powerful fridge, has a 6 or 8 inch high section in the top back that gets cold. Tight fit, but it fits. I'll add a paint can heater or something else. I think I should have a fan to move the cool around.
I could use some thoughts on that.
I'll either build a shelf for the bottom or a shelf for the cone.
What do you all think?

Looks good. I'd do one of those heater wraps Dave carriers myself.

Re: The Conical Thread
Nice job on the element!
I got a brown ale in mine yesterday, pitched WYeast 1450, Denny's Favorite 50. I have no air lock activity at all but a nice krausen. You don't suppose the lid seal isn't air tight? I have it clamped down hard.
I don't have the fittings to do a pressure test yet but when they come I'll do it.

Re: The Conical Thread
I was going to mention that the lid looks like it will be very difficult to seal with the silicone material and clamping mechanism. Be careful as well, I am grinding mine out a bit as it contacts the lid at the ends, might dent them if you go too far.

Also, I am thinking about going to a different type of gasket. Need to see if what they have in there comes out.

Re: The Conical Thread
What kind of gasket would be better?
The arm doesn't contact the lid on mine but it's really close in the back.

I'm home for lunch and took a closer look. It does make contact on one edge in the back.RubberToe wrote:The arm doesn't contact the lid on mine but it's really close in the back.

Re: The Conical Thread
I'm thinking gortex. Might need a couple layers for thickness, depending on how low the lid goes down. I'll do some measuring over the next few days.

Re: The Conical Thread
Also, why do you think it doesn't seal? Could the gasket be uneven and too stiff?

Re: The Conical Thread
Mine is pretty uneven in there, and although it's soft, I don't think it's soft enough to compress with the arm. Although I am working on that, to maybe slide some thicker teflon under the arm to allow more pressure without gouging into the lid. We won't know for sure until we get the gear to pressure test though. Get a tracking number yet?

Re: The Conical Thread
My gasket seems to compress really well and the arm is still a few mm away from touching the lid.
Didn't realize those butterfly valves were coming from PEI. Hoping to have my two here this week.

Re: The Conical Thread
I'm going to use one of the tc ports for temp control with an rtd to a controller. From there, to a solenoid connected to town water. Will also throw a sheet of bubble wrap around the tubing, and secure with velcro. Should work I think, even for saisons come summer.RubberToe wrote:Cool. Details?mr x wrote:Ghetto temp control.

Re: The Conical Thread
A little lube should get that back in easier, but it looks so wavy, I'm really wondering if there is enough force to seal it....

Re: The Conical Thread
I was thinking of working it in a bit to form an even groove. Might now be possible but worth a try.

I'm going to be putting in an order with Stout Tanks this evening for a few pieces. If there's anything anyone would like to tack onto the order, just let me know.
