Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Have you tried using a pressure cooker for the decoction. Apparently it will completely burst the starch unlike traditional decoction which only bursts some of the starch.

Hoping to brew a hop-bursted all Galaxy IPA this weekend. I've got a pound of Galaxy hops in my freezer and would like to get a feel for the flavour/aroma. Will likely bitter with some Columbus or Magnum. I'm going to shoot for around 6.5% ABV and ~85IBU and will ferment with White Labs' San Diego Super Yeast.

I like the pressure cooker idea, but how are you supposed to keep stirring it with the lid on?

made a galaxy ipa while back. i used a bit too much crystal but the galaxy hops are oozing with flavour/aroma.jeffsmith wrote:Hoping to brew a hop-bursted all Galaxy IPA this weekend. i wouldn't bitter with them, magnum sounds like a good choice.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
I'm going to be at < 8% for the crystal malt so I think I should be ok. Really looking forward to this one. I'm thinking the SD Super yeast will help me go from grain to glass relatively quickly.sleepyjamie wrote:made a galaxy ipa while back. i used a bit too much crystal but the galaxy hops are oozing with flavour/aroma.jeffsmith wrote:Hoping to brew a hop-bursted all Galaxy IPA this weekend. Getting ready to brew batch 100 of all grain this Saturday (hard to believe it's only been a year and change since going all grain). Going to attempt Mike Riddle's Tricentennial RIS from brewing classic styles. I think the plan is to soak half an oak spiral in some cheap whiskey to add in the secondary.

Holy Shit man! I've been all grain for over 3 years and still haven't hit 50 batches!Jayme wrote:Getting ready to brew batch 100 of all grain this Saturday (hard to believe it's only been a year and change since going all grain). Haha I know it's a lot... But there are two of us drinking it regularly and if I were to guess, we've probably given away a large portion of that total as well, brewed for several friends weddings, family members, friends, etc. The nice thing about brewing that much in a short time though is we've really got the process down!

Going to be brewing up a Bohemian Pilsner and a 4% session ale on saturday with Sanitarium. I'll be trying out the new mill and conical as well
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

No brewing for me until the long weekend (Nelson Sauvin Saison), but I put my 11.6% RIS on Maker's Mark soaked oak last night. I think the wait to drink this one is really going to be worth it.

Got the conical, did ya? Looks good don't it?
Not brewing this weekend.. waiting for the big brew at the end of the month to do a APA.
So I took apart my tower, cleaned the taps and QD's and am waiting for the shop to open tomorrow to replace the lines. The ones I had were too big ID.
Now I have to drink Tankhouse
And I just made a batch of apple turn overs and blueberry turn overs
Tomorrow will see me bottling a brew and also kegging another.

Funny thing about the brew day Tony, the neighbors son was out and chatting us up about brewing and started talking about his friend Greg who does fest a kits but has this friend from nfld who brews and wins awards. He said he couldn't remember his name, I say is it Tony? The answer is yesTony L wrote:LiverDance wrote:Going to be brewing up a Bohemian Pilsner and a 4% session ale on saturday with Sanitarium. Ha, I just got off the phone from talking to Greg, and he mentioned it. I couldn`t figure out who it was he was talking about.LiverDance wrote: Funny thing about the brew day Tony, the neighbors son was out and chatting us up about brewing and started talking about his friend Greg who does fest a kits but has this friend from nfld who brews and wins awards. We proceeded to have several pints.
Yes, Greg is a good friend. He is the one who sent me the plastic conical I have.
He really loves the Festa kits.
