Nash's secret is out

Nah, can't be. it don't quote smells and tastes like armpits and sweat quote
I have a feeling Nash makes better beer than comes from a Festa kit.

Maybe he just adds more hops to the kits to cover up the flaws.

I'm planning an epic brew weekend - Black IPA and West Coast Red ale Friday, ESB and Oatmeal stout Saturday, Double IPA and regular IPA Sunday, and finally another Black IPA (different yeast) Monday.

Planning on brewing a Nelson Sauvin Rye Saison on Monday, but it could change to a Citra Pale Ale. Depends on having time to make a starter…

After dumping out 44L of "garden hose" bohemian pilsner last night, I decided to try a German pils tonight.

Berliner Weisse for me today
Cool. What did you pitch? Did you use L delbruekii from Wyeast and ale yeast or something else?

Used a new garden hose to top up the water after chilling. The beer was undrinkable...

Used a neutral ale yeast and a vial of Lacto from White Labs.

I've made this mistake! I've never used my garden hose for brew water again. Sorry for your loss
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I've heard numerous times that if you're going to use a garden hose, you need to get one of the white RV ones as they are meant for potable water. Never tried it myself as I brew in an apartment, but might be worth looking into if you need a hose in your setup. I saw them at Rona last year, price was on par with regular green garden hoses. I presume most other places would carry them as well.

Yeah I was just being lazy. From now on, if I need to top up the water, I'll use a pitcher and water from the tap.

I would never use hose water from any type of hose. It will be full of infection. Only boiled water.

Oh I was assuming he was using the hose to fill the mash or top up the kettle, hence would become boiled water. Certainly all water must be boiled, whether it comes from a tap or hose. I was getting at the fact that water coming out of a regular green garden hose is not potable as the plastic is not food grade and leaches nasty tastes and such so you really don't want to use that water, boiled or not.

Taking a second crack at my Red Lion Ale with a few tweaks to the recipe. Also making another pale ale with Glacier and Challenger hops and trying a wheat ale.

Bottled my apricot pale ale last night, and racked over my brown ale for secondary fermentation this morning. Also started a wine kit this morning - VR's Angel Blanco. Awesome off-dry white, hopefully not too late for BBQ season.
Primary Fermentation: Comfortably Numb English-Style Barleywine
Secondary Fermentation: none
Bottled: Coldstream Northern English Brown Ale, Apricot Pale Ale, Ironside Rye IPA, Chocolate Orange Stout,

Just finished another version of an ESB recipe I've been toying with. Kegged and shook the shit out of an AK clone last night for a party on Sunday ... surprised it is carbed up already.

Is tap water fine for topping up? I've always just used spring water from the store.

Well, I've heard of lots of people doing it, but I never add water that hasn't been sterilized by boiling. I'd never get a good night's rest, lol.

Brewing up some SoulShine Pilsner on the back deck in this beautiful brewing weather.

I made wheat ale yesterday. I put it in the basement to keep it somewhat cool, but no luck. It's 74ºF right now, and both buckets (7 gallon buckets, about 5.5 gallons in each) overflowed this afternoon. I've had beer reach the lid before, but I've never had it ooze out the top. I collected some and stirred the rest in, but it's already swelled up again. On the plus side, my basement smells fantastic.
