Hi Everyone,

Taking my first shot at yeast washing/harvesting from a batch of Pilsner I just made using whitelabs Lager yeast WLP838.

Can someone clarify for me which layer is the yeast I am trying to keep, for the next batch.

Thanks,
A-A-Ron

Personally I would just decant the beer off the top and pitch all of it. That's just my laziness talking though.

What are we looking at, is that just collected straight from the primary with beer on top, or did you use some boiled water? If you mix it with water and shake it good, the proteins and dead yeast should fall to the bottom with the live yeast on top. Then you can pour the liquid into another container, and allow the top layer of yeast to pour with it, leaving the crud.
