Yeast Started - Good for How Long

Post by MoonGoon902 » Thu May 04, 2017 9:19 am

Hi folks,

Made a yeast starter from a smack pack a week and a half ago and didn't get a window to brew.

Any idea of how long the started will be "good" for?

Thanks,

If it is in the fridge it is probably good for about six months. You will want to put fresh wort on it to wake them back up after about a week. The yeast will still be using up their reserves. If it is closer to the six month mark, maybe treat it like an old yeast pack and assume much of the yeast has died off, so a full new starter is needed.
