hose confusion

Hey all,

I'm getting into all grain brewing and I'm a bit confused about how the tubing is connected to a brew kettle / mash tun. I see that there are pieces that you can attach to a ball lock that have a barbed end. I also see that there are a quick disconnect type thing called camlocks.

Are camlocks the way to go? if I just use the barbed end would I put a hose clamp on it every time I attach it to the kettle (I'm assuming you wouldn't want to leave the hose attached while boiling)

Thanks,

Dan

I use a Chugger Pump and have it kitted out with a combo of cam and the ones you pull to open. I did this to make only one way to connect the tube. I can pump directly into my fermenter through a basement window.

BTW silicone is the best choice IMO. A ball valve on the pump is required too.

So cams are pretty necessary over barbed ended connections I take it?

Ya you will frig up the hose end and need to cut it and eventually get a new hose.

Good to know! I'll add those to my order :D. I'm going to go with the silicone hose too. I'm pretty excited to start all grain brewing

Where are you located. Maybe we can arrange a co-brew day.

Yeah that would be fun, I live on Ashton Lane off Windsor St. I see that you're also in the north end, where about?
