Like the look of these Conicals

Post by jimboh » Mon Jun 12, 2017 2:54 pm

Have you seen these Conicals from Spike brewing at https://spikebrewing.com/collections/fe ... -fermenter
Works out around $800 CAD but to me they look like the bees knees (or the dogs Bollocks, depends where you hail from). They are now in production after a complete redesign and are shipping.
Unfortunately however, they are only currently shipping within the US.
They tell me they will be looking at exporting to Canada later in the year.
Geez I want one now? How about a group buy?
Drinking: Best Coast IPA, Old Speckled Hen Clone, Northern Lights (NG),
Belgian Saison, Blonde Ale, Toy Soldier Stout(OBK) and 14G batch of ESB.
Fermenting: Taking a rest!
Scheduled: Another 10G of Toy Soldier Stout.

I talked to the guy who owns Spike as I was looking at a larger system. IIRC he is able to ship to an address near the border which you can pick up.
On Tap:
Falconers Galaxy IPA
Simcoe SMaSH
Topaz SMaSH
Cranberry Rye Saison
Monde Souterrain (Dark Saison)

I got this reply to my earlier email, I took it as a "We would prefer if you didn't"
My email:
Oh, Your website still suggests not currently available, does that just mean out of stock?
I am asking around in my club (brewnosers.org) to find out if anybody has friends in Calas, Maine. I have relations in Louisiana but that is a bit too far to drive lol.
Jim
Their response:
Good morning Jim-

We have been redesigning our conical for the last year, so we haven't had a conical on the market during that time. We are nearing the launch of our new conical in the coming weeks, so that is why it is out of stock at the moment.

I did just want to send you a friendly note if you do end up purchasing and sending to a US destination for pickup. Since Spike is not set up for international distribution/shipping, we are unable to take responsibility (NAFTA documentation) on our equipment leaving the country when/if you do cross the border with it. Taking this responsibility could lead to a large fine to us if there are regulations or rules we do not comply with that we are unaware of. This is something we want to make sure we get right as we are going through the process.

We hope to get this all straightened out as quickly as we can so we can get our products into new customers hands out of the US. Thanks again for your interest and please let me know if you have any further questions!

Kyle
Anybody got relatives near the border in the US?

So where these have no temp control built in what's the advantage of this over say an SS brewtech one?

I've used Kinek with great success. $5-$10 to accept and hold the package.
