Oak barrels
So my birthday is coming up and my wonderful brewing partner and girlfriend is willing to go half on a barrel with me.
Does anyone have a hook up for getting small barrels into NS. There was a guy from st Margaret's bay that was getting into distributing from a supplier in Toronto but I can't seem to get in touch with him.
I'm looking for something around 19L just for cost reasons but would prefer something a bit bigger. It would be nice not have so much surface area to volume going on.

Re: Oak barrels
Honestly your cheapest option is probably gonna be either a 30 gal or a 60 gal, since those are the ones you'll find used.
I would suggest sending out emails to the wineries asking for one.

Re: Oak barrels
I asked Ross @ WineKitz Clayton Park about the barrels 3 months ago. He doesn't stock any, but he will bring them in if you want to order one. They are Hungarian White Oak, and various sizes are available.jacinthebox wrote:WineKitz used to sell the 5gal barrels. They still may

Re: Oak barrels
I never bothered asking. When I originally asked it was because he used to do in-store aging of wine in the barrels - I wanted to buy some of the used ones.

Re: Oak barrels
I ended up buying an 11 gallon barrel from bochart.com
It shipped from Ontario insanely fast.
The barrel was in great condition when it showed up. All the staves and rings were nice and tight, the charring/toasting on the inside was even.
I wasn't prepared for it shipping so fast and didn't start prepping it until three days ago. The barrel had dried out significantly.
I had to re set the rings
The company assured me this is normal and I've begun prepping the barrel but still have one minor leak in the barrel.
I'm doing the final test tonight before filling it. It's been through three cycles with hot water as of it and I'm gonna attempt to fill the barrel completely with water tonight.

Thanks for the info. Can you check that URL? It looks like a domain parking site.
