Good day folks, I currently brew using an EBIAB system. I use a SS basket with holes and a mesh bag, I recirculate through the entire mash. it seems to work OK but I wonder how much of the wort is actually reaching the bottom of the grains before it spills out through the holes. So a couple of questions:
1) Has anyone used solid sided baskets, and if so what is their experience?
2)Does anyone know of a local fabricator that could produce a SS solid sided basket with a mesh bottom? I have seen them for sale out of the US but with the exchange/shipping they are pricey.
Thanks for the input!

Re: Mash Basket
What is your mash efficiency? If you're having efficiency issues, I'd try mashing without recirculating.
I'd expect it to be about the same as standard BIAB, considering a bag is porous on the sides as well. I'm not sure you'd benefit from a solid sided mash basket.

Thanks Jimmy. I guess my thought was the wort would be forced to go through the grain bed and not out through the sides. I will experiment with a few things to see if I can dial it in.

Do you know what your mash efficiency is?

Re: Mash Basket
Seems reasonable. Could maybe hit low 80's, but you'll likely need to fly sparge if you want to go much higher.
