Using propane stove tank for brewing - split?

So I have a big honkin Irving Oil propane tank in my backyard that I'd love to hook my outdoor burner up to. This is the tank that supplies my propane stove in the house. Ideally there would be some sort of a splitter that I could hook up to the propane tank so that I could plug my outdoor burner in and still have my stove functioning indoors.
I have two questions:
1) Is it actually cheaper to use my house propane than to fill up my propane tank every time?
2) Anyone have any experience with setting up a system like this, or heard of someone who did it?
FYI: I phoned Irving to ask what their price would be for something like that and they claimed it was in the $400 range.
