Fermentation Temps - How do you do it?

Hey everyone,

I’m setting up my home brew at a new house where I’m being ushered to the outdoors/garage for my beer making. I had a set room in my old place that was pretty easy to set a constant temp, but I don’t have a great set up here.

How do you guys set fermentation temperature without dropping a ton of money?

Cheers,
Jon

Find a small free or cheap chest freezer on kijiji and rig up a $20 - $40 temp controller and paint can heater.

I've done this a handful of times and it gives you pretty much perfect control of your temps while being fairly cheap. My best one was a free freezer that fit 2 carboys and the heater.

I also have a temperature controlled chamber, except it’s a wooden insulated box with a mini fridge on each end. It used to just be one, but it wasn’t keeping it as cold as I would have liked in the hot weather. Cool enough, but lagers we’re out of the question. I was going to switch to a chest freezer but I couldn’t fit one in my car and I already had a second mini fridge I wasn’t using.

I second this.

Right now I’m only using a 4.4cu ft fridge and fits the paint can and 1 fermentation bucket (after you remove all the door stuff).
Hoping to upgrade to a freezer though. So if you have the space (and an understanding spouse) I’d recommend that, right from the get-go.

I bought a full sized fridge on kijiji for 100 bucks and bought an ink bird. When I'm not fermenting in it I use it for extra kegs with picnic taps and an overflow fridge for Costco runs.
