That’s sort of an open question, are you going for English, American? Most ale yeasts would be fine if it had the flavour and attenuation characteristics you want. Whatever you go with, make sure you use a lot, and give it time to finish.

Any English or American ale yeast should be fine, depending on what you're looking for. Just make sure you're pitching enough to do the job. http://www.mrmalty.com/calc/calc.html use this to help get the pitching rates right

Make a session beer (sub 1.045 OG) as a starter then use that yeast cake for your Barley Wine, this should give you plenty of yeast. This all assumes you are doing 5 gallon batches.
And others stated, an American or British yeast strain will be fine for a BW.

I did an american barley wine with US05. Made a starter and added 2 packets of yeast. Pitched a few days later. The yeast chewed thru the high gravity wort without any complaints.
