Kveik Voss is a monster!

Post by BrewG » Thu May 28, 2020 9:19 pm

Brew a beer this morning. Garage is warm fermenter temp 25°c so decided on kveik. Wow. It’s bubbling after 5 hours of pitching the yeast. I hope it ferments clean I have anxiety about this temp!

Did you make a starter? How about oxygenation? I'm using Hothead right now at a "low" temp of 22. From what I read, 25 is nothing!

From what I read 30 is ideal.
Why brew beer I can buy?

No starter. But I did under pitch as per the recommendations. I bought a pouch of omega Voss and poured half of it in a sanitized jar (to use later). The other half into the fermenter. 5 gallon batch was bubbling in a few hours. Kegged it a couple days ago hit it with 30 Psi for a couple days at 35°f hooked it up to serving pressure and it taste great. No off flavours, clean, hint of citrus. Wow. Grain to glass in roughly 10 days. I think it still may need a couple more days to fully carb it’s about 90% carbed

I pitch voss at 42c and set the temp controller to 32c. Beer is done in a day or 2. I've drank 3 day voss before.

Well that kegs done! Just ordered some oslo kveik. Suppose to be clean and crisp without the orange citrus flavour. Lager like. I will report back after I’ve had a chance to taste a lager made with it.
