Hard Seltzer

Post by TheBucker » Sat Apr 10, 2021 5:17 pm

I was wondering if anyone would like to share their experience brewing a seltzer. With summer coming I would like to take a crack at one this year. A recipe and process would be amazing.
Kegged: Irish Dry Stout, NEIPA
Fermenting: Lutra 'Lager'
On deck: Grapefruit IPA

Gonna try this at some point. Yeast selection is key.

I haven't made seltzer yet, but turbo yeast with charcoal and the clearing agent produces a super clear wash for distilling and would probably be great to just add some flavour to for seltzer. Also, if you have questions about seltzer, CH who made that video does a livestream every Wednesday at 10 our time on his channel "The Hoppy Hour" and always answers any questions (unless he gets buzzed and misses them).

Just made one of those new Mangrove Jack seltzer kits and was surprised how good it turned out. Even drinking right out of the primary (sweetner only) it was pretty decent. I have 2 kegs of it carbing now and will see how it goes.

Its basically just sugar syrup + yeast/nutrients. I think I'll try making it from scratch next, the key seems to be yeast nutrient with Fermaid O widely being recommended but I'm having trouble finding in small qty.

We just made the Mangrove Jack kit as well, and it was pretty decent. Not nearly as clean as a White Claw, but definitely in the right direction. And $34 for a 19-20 litre kit, so the price was right. We want to try one from scratch. Will check out the video referenced above.
