Grain Mill Pictures

Post by HotBreak » Wed Mar 07, 2012 9:50 pm

Ok, maybe this is just an excuse to show off my latest creation but it got me thinking that there are probably other people out there with over-engineered contraptions that they have put together for brewing. If not, maybe it will provide ideas for those looking to create one!

Anyway, I've shown you mine, lets see yours!

Well done! We need details on your setup though. What hp and rpm is your motor and what's the ratio of those pulleys?

Cool. Can you also fertilize your lawn with it?

The guts is a Crankandstein 3D mill with the half inch drive option. This is powered by a 1/3 hp electric motor spinning at 1725 RPM. The reduction pulleys are 11/2 inches on the motor, 9 inches on the mill reducing the RPM to the low 200s.
Everything was cut, bent and welded by hand and then sprayed John Deere green, leaving the interior bare, treated with olive oil to keep it food grade. Oh, and the hopper should hold almost 30 lbs but I will find out this weekend. Can't fertilize the lawn with it but I can use it as a ladder if I need to!

Excellent work.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Great job. Make a belt guard, your fingers will thank you for it.
I made mine using a gear motor. I could have gotten away a lot cheaper with a belt drive
but the thought of it swayed me to the gear motor

I presume that the wheels are for travelling around town providing a mobile milling service.

Looks like a nice compact unit. Nice idea of the grain chute also.

So, the hopper holds 20 lbs of grain and there is more than enough torque to eat through all the grain I can feed it!
As for a mobile milling service, if anyone out fall river way needs some grain milled, I am more than happy to grind it for you!
