Indoor Kettles

Post by Dirt Chicken » Tue Mar 27, 2012 6:46 pm

Hey I've been looking around for a good kettle for on my electric stove to replace the smaller ones I currently use.
Looking for a 40-60qt size, with a thick aluminum bottom (to evenly bring to boil with a shitty stove)
I don't want to break the bank, and would rather stainless than anything else.

Big Eric's probably is the place to go I'm guessing. (anyone know what to ask for there?)

Any other leads would be awesome!!

i got a 48 litre pot from Rona or Home Depot or Kent (they all sell em for ~$60). I used it once on my stove (it is wide, so it fits over two burners), but i had difficulty getting a nice rolling boil. i've since moved to a place with a glass top stove, so i am scared to use it. i only use it when i am able to brew on a propane burner, and use two smaller pots indoors (20qt and 16qt).
planning: beer for my cousin's wedding
Fermenting: black ipa
Conditioning:
Kegged: barrel barleywine from 2014 - i think i still have this somewhere

If you end up going with an all aluminum pot, then check out the cash & carry down by the rotary.

As far as stainless pots go, I called around not too long ago. I think Big Erics wanted about $230+tax for a 60qt stainless. Russell food equipment was the cheapest I could find in town for stainless.

I was meaning on checking with them also, I used to live in that neighborhood too. I'd rather taller than wider, and thick bottom is a must.

what about buying an unclad aluminum or SS and using a minimal e-herms setup? you can generally get unclad for 2/3 the price and a 4500watt hot water coil (with box+plug) should only cost another $40. A lot of guys are going turkey fryers (with basket for BIAB) from Bayou and punching a couple holes in it.

Check these guys out: http://www.canadiantreasureseekers.com/ ... list&c=287

Some interesting deals, and supposedly free shipping in Canada. You can find reviews on some of those pots online. If I didn't have a keggle I'd be tempted to order from there.

I should have looked harder. There's a flyer on their website : http://www.russellfood.ca/lib/pdf/Sprin ... 12_ENG.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

stopped in today, the Polarware 40qt brewers pot(complete with stainless ball valve) is going to be over $300+tax and they won't offer any warranty since its not a regular item they carry. I say frig that, and buy the same thing online for cheeper from a brew supplier with a warranty ( so if it shows up with a huge dent in the side you can swap it up obviously)

I might have some stuff for you if want to diy the ball valve and temp gauge. Talk to you on the weekend.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:
