Coffee for Stout

Post by BobbyOK » Mon Jan 10, 2011 10:15 am

Given the usual price, I suspect people wouldn't want to use Kopi Luwak from homebrew, but a co-worker has 5 lb her cousin brought back for her directly from Java. She's willing to part with it for the $7 a lb she paid for it. I'm grabbing a lb for myself, anyone else want some to experiment? Or just to have some Kopi Luwak?

I should add she's got no claims to authenticity - because if she did she'd be selling it for a profit obviously, but I've got no reason to believe it's not the real thing. And at $7 a lb I'll take that chance.

As a coffee non-aficionado, what is the story with this type of coffee?
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Seems too cheap to be real, here a site selling if for anywhere from 120 - 300 a pound

But hey, i'd give it a shot if I ever had the chance.

Roasted already? If so, to what degree? I'm interested, assuming it's already been roasted.

I was thinking that too, but perhaps it's like most things and much cheaper at the source? Don't know why they'd bother passing it off as the real thing for $7 a lb though. Or maybe it's like the 2 boxes of Cohibas a professor of mine once bought in Cuba for $50 from a boy on the street...

I'd assume yes, but I'll double check to be sure.

It is roasted - roughly medium-dark. Did you want me to get some for you? Just let me know how much. She's got it in 1 lb bags and two of the 5 are spoken for.

Anyone else?

I'll take one, or two if there's enough to go around.
Thanks

I'll just tell her I'll take the full five pounds. If no one else wants it I'll hold on to two for you. Even if you take two there's still a pound up for grabs.

Scratch that, someone else grabbed the 5th lb already. So 3 of 4 are committed and if no one wants the 4th Chris will take it.
