need some pointers before i start to drill holes in the top as it appears that the wiring harness for the temp control is in the middle of the top.

I've only done sanyos with front mounted taps.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

Had to mount the tower toward the back of the fridge, which was fine with me, but the only place it was possible to mount.
You have to hit it between the thermostat/light fixture, where there is probably 4-5" of room to work with.
And yes, I know mine is a whirlpool, but it's the same fridge.

i would like to mount mine about 2/3 the way to the rear (because my arms aren't long enough) and am planning on drilling two holes, 3/4" each. do you recall how the wiring ran? was it straight back or off to the side

If you look behind the thermostat/light mounted to the top of the fridge, you can see the wiring running to the back. I just drilled to make sure I didn't hit that wire. You can push it out of the way a bit to help with the drilling as well.
