Where can one get hop rhizomes?

Post by vgoreham » Sat Jan 15, 2011 10:53 pm

Hey, new to the fourm (after lurking for a while). I'd really like to get into growing some hops - but had trouble sourcing rhizomes last year. I'm determined to make this year different - and so I'm asking if any of you know somewhere to buy/order them for a reasonable price?

Thanks!

I bought rhizomes form Crannog:

Josh Herbin (who runs Lazy Acres hop farm in the valley). Not sure if he is still in the rhizome business though:

And another guy in Pictou county. I'll dig out his contact info for you later.

I have bought whole plants from Rhicter's herbs in Ontario too:

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

I bought mine from Crannog too. Its best to get on their mailing list now. Orders are taken late winter and the rhizomes are harvested and mailed in the spring. I got mine in early may if I remember correctly.

Well, I'd heard about the group a while ago - but didn't really know of the forums (I think I hit the old website when I Googled it).

Recently found my way here - encouraged by an employee at our friendly LHBS.

Nice. The website is slowly climbing the Google rankings, so it should be easier to find now. It comes up on the first page when searching Halifax homebrew club, brewnosers, and many other related search terms. I was just curious if we were getting any new members via search engine results.
