adding yeast late to homebrew kit

hello all,

I am relatively new to this process. I have gone through 2 batches that turned out great, and I've kegged them both and impressed/scared with just how good they were to drink!

My question is regarding my latest batch. I picked up a baron's premium beer kit, american lite flavour. It is the one with the 7.5 L wort premade, you add the bentonite with 2 litres of hot water, add the wort, rinsed with 4L of warm water, top up to 23L with cold water, then add yeast packet when temp falls to between 18-24C. I made it late last night, and fell asleep waiting for the temp to drop. I then added the yeast in the morning. As of this evening there is little activity in my primary fermenter.

Did I wait to long to add the yeast? Should I stir the solution to activate it? Should I just be patient and let it ferment on its own?

Thank you for your help!

You wouldn't have waited too long for the yeast not to work. If it's alive, it would go. How are you determining little activity? Airlock on bucket?

Well I am new to this, no airlock, but the last 2 that I did there was foam on top of the solution at the beginning of the process, and even after 1 day there would be thick foam until it would start to dissipate after 3-4 days. This batch just seems flat, after about 12 hrs. I guess I will give it a few days to see how it turns out.

Lag times can differ for many reasons. Give it until the morning. I used to put my ear to the bucket and listen for the carbonation releasing.

I'd pick up a pack of US-05 and be ready to pitch it if there's no activity within 24-36 hours. Could easily be bad yeast depending on how long the kit has been sitting on the shelf.
