Re: Who is interested in Custom Temp. Controllers?
Great news! Looking forward to trying one.
Will we need anything else to make these guys work? Thermal probe, etc?

Re: Who is interested in Custom Temp. Controllers?
I wired one up this afternoon and found a well written library that uses the preprocessor properly so it can be used on just about any hardware configuration. Every pin is definable so I can work around the atmega's dedicated hardware pins. http://homepage.hispeed.ch/peterfleury/ ... tware.html
The board layout is getting more complicated by the day. I'm starting to think I should design a proper board and get it manufactured in china. The proto boards I just got are a bitch to solder as they have extra pads for surface mount components in between the pins and I keep getting solder bridges to them. To make things worse my solder sucker is MIA, so I'm having to use wire as makeshift desoldering braid.
I'm going to keep building them on proto board for now as I'm still nailing down the design. Anyone who gets one of these boards can trade it in for a proper board down the road. Same goes for firmware, as it improves I'll update controllers for free.

So wait a minute... This can just be flashed with new firmware when needed?? That is awesome.

Yea you just need a $15 programmer to write the firmware into flash. Eventually I could just install a boot loader which would allow for easier firmware updates over usb, but the usb serial board cost the same as the programmer.

I use an USBtiny AVR programmer similar to this one: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9825
I have ladyada's version that I built from a kit a few years ago.

If it is MIA for too long let me know. I have an extra solder sucker around my place.Garak wrote: To make things worse my solder sucker is MIA, so I'm having to use wire as makeshift desoldering braid.

just a FYI: If you're in need of some surface-mount stuff... we're getting a hot-air re-work here within the month.

The current temperature sensors are LM35, they look like transistors. They are really only suited for dry use, like controlling a freezer.chalmers wrote:Great news! Looking forward to trying one.

I'm working on a way to seal them into some copper or stainless tubing so they can be submerged in liquid. For non-food grade applications I've sealed them in epoxy with good results.
Chalmers, What was your application exactly?

For right now, kegerator/fermentation chamber temp control. In the future, HLT, MT, etc.Garak wrote: Chalmers, What was your application exactly?

Hey Garak, do you know where to get nice project boxes, like these:
http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_ ... 26c5216c7f
I'm interested in fermentation temperature controllers, like maybe one box with two outputs to control two carboys.

@ X:
Can't you just buy those product boxes from the company you linked to?

Believe it or not, no. Not the larger ones anyway. Just looking for a source inside Canada.
