Just wondering if anyone is using any software for doing all the calculations when doing all-grain?

guaranteed most are using beersmith, or promash, or something else.Jimmy M wrote:Just wondering if anyone is using any software for doing all the calculations when doing all-grain?

Yeah, but I'd have to run Windows. Definitely not worth it to me.mr x wrote:I think Beersmith has become the standard. I use it.

Or maybe not - I had never seen an Ubuntu version...Jamie D wrote:Beersmith 2 Ubuntu version

Native Ubuntu 32 and 64 bit versions were added last spring. They are in the download section of the Beersmith website.canuck wrote:http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f84/beersmi ... ntu-69052/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;derek wrote: Or maybe not - I had never seen an Ubuntu version...

You know we don't mention HBT here. You'll upset X. [in any case, that's obsolete - I know I can run many apps in Wine (though BeerSmith in Wine just sounds wrong!), but they often look pretty crappy, and if I'm absolutely forced to run a Windows app I put it in my VM]canuck wrote:http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f84/beersmi ... ntu-69052/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;derek wrote: Or maybe not - I had never seen an Ubuntu version...

Yes, thanks, I found them right after seeing your post. I may stick with BrewTarget, but I'll definitely give BS2 a try for this weekend's brewday.Jamie D wrote: Native Ubuntu 32 and 64 bit versions were added last spring. They are in the download section of the Beersmith website.
So, I put BS2 on my linux machine, and it certainly has lots of bells and whistles I'm not used to (not sure I care about most of them, though), but the one thing I can't figure out is how to get it to calculate my IBUs. I add hops to the recipe (imported via BeerXML), from the hop selection (so they shouldn't be anything special), and tell it to boil for 60 minutes, and no mater what I select, they provide no bitterness. But I look at any of their sample recipes and changing the quantity of any hop changes the IBUs. Anybody got a clue what's happening?derek wrote:I may stick with BrewTarget, but I'll definitely give BS2 a try for this weekend's brewday.
my guess is it's some bug from importing from beerxml. i've never had the issue.derek wrote:So, I put BS2 on my linux machine, and it certainly has lots of bells and whistles I'm not used to (not sure I care about most of them, though), but the one thing I can't figure out is how to get it to calculate my IBUs. Yeah, that's my guess too, which is why I even mentioned importing the BeerXML. It's pretty awkward, since I was planning to change the hops...CorneliusAlphonse wrote: my guess is it's some bug from importing from beerxml. i've never had the issue.
if you share the file, i'll try opening it and adding hops on my computer - see if it's a windows/linux thing, or an importing thingderek wrote:Yeah, that's my guess too, which is why I even mentioned importing the BeerXML. I have apparently fixed it. It imported with my custom Equipment, but (even though, iirc, the Equipment description is in the BeerXML) didn't save the equipment. Once I created an equivalent equipment in Beer Smith, it immediately gave me the correct IBUsCorneliusAlphonse wrote: if you share the file, i'll try opening it and adding hops on my computer - see if it's a windows/linux thing, or an importing thing
