Very nice... very tasty, only slightly hoppy with a light smoky finish...
I think the next batch I'll dry hop to give a bit deeper aroma

How long did that mash take? I'm thinking of trying a doppelbock with double decoction because I just don't have 6 hours for a mash.jacinthebox wrote:Tripple decoction pilsner...full ro water build up. And yeast starter. Such a long brew day, went smooth but long...2 hr boil just started.

My new Jockey box worked awesome last weekend! Held ice for 4 days and kept the beer ice cold.

Re: Random brewing pics
Double brew day today. First time using the KAB6 burner as well. Have 12 gallons of water up to almost strike temp in less than a half hour. Loving this burner so far.

Re: Random brewing pics
Jeff any flame outs without the propane tanks in water? I have to with my KAB6. Any questions let me know. I've got around 50 batches on mine.

Re: Random brewing pics
Thanks Woody. Not as of yet. Half way through my first boil and all is well. I have it dialled back quite a bit. One thing I do need to do is fashion up a heat shield for my racking valve and sight glass fitting. Those things are getting hotter than hell.Woody wrote:Jeff any flame outs without the propane tanks in water? I have to with my KAB6. Any questions let me know. I've got around 50 batches on mine.

Re: Random brewing pics
They sure do Jeff. I use a cheap piece of aluminum to wrap around mine. Cools really quick and surprising doesn't melt. Food for thought.

Re: Random brewing pics
Good idea Jimmy. The KAB6 has a small shield over the air intake so I line the temp probe and the ball valve on the pot to it and it help's allot.

Re: Random brewing pics
I'm finding that the heat is curling around the edges of the pot so think I'm going to need to buy the heat shields. My valve and sight glass fitting sit really low.Woody wrote:Good idea Jimmy. Re: Random brewing pics
Sometimes less is more with these burners. Dialing back on the propane delivery may help with the flame-outs. I know the Blichmann burner is designed with an ideal propane flow less than maximum regulator capacity.Woody wrote:Jeff any flame outs without the propane tanks in water? I have to with my KAB6. I'm guessing the water is to keep the tank from getting too cold, and keep lots of propane in the gas phase. Do you have troubles in the winter?

Re: Random brewing pics
Hey Chris! In the winter I put the tank in warm water and have no issues and you are correct as to why I do it. A little ice forms but I put the warm water from the wort chiller on the bucket and it frees up fast. In the summer my well water works fine with no freezing. I've tried everything but that 30 psi regulator sucks so much propane so fast my tanks were freezing up and flaming out. Read somewhere about putting the tank in water and haven't had an issue since. I don't go gang busters on the boil but do like a nice rapid one.
