Unmalted barley

I'm looking for some malting quality barley seed to plant this summer. Does anyone know where I could buy some? I tried the Farmers Co-op in Bridgewater last summer but the variety they sell is not really suited for malting. I ended up getting some Conlon 2-row out of the states but it was expensive to get here and wasn't really worth it in the end. I saved all that I grew to plant this year but it's not nearly enough.

The fella that malts his own found a local source and posted the info in that thread. Search and yee shall find, I'd do it for you but I'm busy scrubbing tanks right now.
Sent from the hop-phone.

Sounds like it would be hard on the hop-phone, posting to the forum while you're scrubbing.

Here's the pricing info on the malt grade barley seed from Co-op Atlantic. The variety is 'Leader'. The sales rep said it is malt grade. I'm not sure if I'm going ahead with an order for myself but I can send you the contact information if anybody wants to order some. I think I'd only be interested in few kg.

Hi Tim,
Great to hear from you.
The price of Leader barley is $35.79 per 40 kg bag.
This price is delivered to the store of your choice, including Bridgewater.
Let me know how you make out with this project, as I am very curious how the end result (i.e. Beer) will turn out.
Cheers,

Got your e-mail and I'll likely get a 40kg bag. Let me know how much you'd like and it shall be yours! If anyone else wants to get in on the bag too, just let me know.

You know we've got a bulk grain order going,
and its already malted!
Just kidding - If my couch was more comfortable, I'd give it a go too, but my lovely wife will only put up with so much and I don't want to push my luck. If I can finish my kegerator and extend my hop trellis another 10' (vertically)

, that's about as far as I'm willing to push it.

Jayme, just curious if you planted any barley this spring. I might try next year if I can get more land cleared.

No actually. I contacted the fellow through the Farmer's Co-op, waited a week or two and heard nothing. So then I contacted the woman attached to the email, and apparently he quit. She then put me in touch with his replacement who claimed they didn't sell malting barely until I pushed a bit, but he said since it is special order it would have to be pre-ordered in January. Long story short, no luck this year although I think I may have just been given a run around. I marked it on my calendar to contact him again next year so HOPEFULLY it will work out for next summer! Thanks for the info though!

I had also found a place in Ontario that sold malt grade barley seed. I contacted them through their web site and they replied within a day or so. They actually called me back when they hadn't heard from me. I'll see if I can find the info and email it to you or post it here. Seems like they were very willing to sell even a 25kg bag. Might be a better solution for next year.
