Re: Useful supplier links
Been searching forever and still can't find a source of 1lb pound bags of Hopunion nitrogen flushed/sealed leaf hops (other than Toronto brewing supplies, and they only have one variety, Cascade, in 1lb bags). Can't seem to order from the US either.
They have so many more options in the US eg. https://bellsbeer.com/store/categories/ ... 1-lb-Bags/
Maybe Dave at Everwood will get some in some time. I read somewhere they have a 3 year shelf life because of the N2, they always seem really fresh when you open the bag. I can't help thinking there might be frustrated people looking for them all across Canada. Might be an opportunity for a niche market. If people are visiting Everwood online to get them, they might add one or two more things to their cart as well
Has anyone else been looking for bulk leaf hops?

I pretty much gave up on leaf hops due to limited storage space.

Re: Useful supplier links
We have a big old freezer in the basement that was hardly used before. It’s full of hops now. I found the quote about shelf life on the hop union site. Leaf have shorter shelf life than I thought (plenty long enough though), but it doesn’t specify whether the shelf life is at room temp, refrigerated or frozen.
Here's a picture of them in a home brew store. Cold storage space would be an issue, that might be why none of the online stores in Canada carry a variety of the 1lb bags. How long will my hops stay fresh?
Hop deterioration is impacted by numerous variables, the two most important being heat exposure and oxidation. For properly sealed, nitrogen flushed pellets, customers can expect a 3-4 year life expectancy. Raw hops however have a much shorter life span (approximately 6 months to 1 year). Regardless of the product size or packaging, hops should be stored in a cold, air tight environment to ensure optimum freshness and quality.

Re: Useful supplier links
I have ordered quite a bit of bulk leaf hops through hops direct in the states, shipping is a bit steep, but they often have great sales. For example, this spring I got 10 lb of hops, (magnum, nugget, galaxy, goldings and northern brewer) for around $60 to my door.
Here are some examples from their summer sale that I missed out on due to having a full freezer of hops
Brewers Gold LEAF $8.80 / #
Bullion LEAF $8.80 / #
Cluster LEAF $7.35 / #
Nugget LEAF $5.60 / #
Columbus LEAF $7.50 / #
Sterling LEAF $9.90 / #
UK First Gold LEAF $10.00 / #
Gr. Perle LEAF $8.90 / #
US Perle LEAF $9.10 / #
Glacier LEAF $10.60 / #
Serebrianka LEAF $7.55 / #
Cheers,
Jon

Atlantic Hardchrome

5 Notting Court
Burnside Industrial Park
Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
Canada B3B 1N2
Telephone: (902) 469-3606
I called them about o-rings for my ball locks and received the following prices. Lead time is 2-3 days.
(Dip Tube O-Ring) #109 Buna cost is .06 cents , Silicone cost is .42 cents each
(Post O-Ring) #111 Buna cost is .07 cents , Silicone cost is .46 cents each
(Lid O-Ring) #417 Buna cost is $ 4.81 each , Silicone is $ 8.98 each
I know that they also carry the silicone o-rings (and pretty much any other o-ring) that people usually use to replace the black gasket inside the camlocks; I forget sizing and price, but remember it being reasonable.

Depending on how many you need, some places might give you a few if that's all you want. Not sure if Everwood or NG sells them...

NG in Cole harbour had some the last time I was in. I would call first before making the drive though as that was a couple months ago.

McMaster - Carr are a great resource for brewing related equipment. They are based in the US but ship to Canada out of Hamilton so there are no customs issues

Re: Useful supplier links
Has anyone had trouble buying from Ontario Beer Kegs recently? I've been trying to either register and/or buy product from them, but I keep getting error messages and requests to contact customer service. I've tried to register first, and buy right from the shopping cart with credit card or with Paypal and nothing works. I've sent them an email explaining all this, but haven't heard anything back yet.

Interestingly enough, when you order from Canuck Homebrew Supply, the order confirmations are from Ontario Beer Kegs.

Same owners. I believe the snuck homebrew side tends to sell the cheaper gear while obk focuses on the higher end side. I believe I seen a post on here about it in the vendor section.Peterpasha wrote:Interestingly enough, when you order from Canuck Homebrew Supply, the order confirmations are from Ontario Beer Kegs.
