Halifax Seed

Post by dgenerrick » Tue Sep 10, 2013 9:36 pm

I see there is a hop vine on Kane Street outside of Halifax Seed. Does anyone know what kind they are? I'm intrigued by the idea of brewing with random hops growing on the side of the road. Controlled ingredients might produce a far better brew, but not knowing just what to expect is kind of cool too.

Hey Dgenerrick,

I asked them a month or so ago about them, she said she thinks they are Cascade then proceeded to rip me out some roots and gave me a bundle to plant for free lol. I had some of the hop flowers with me when I was at Propeller brewery for work and asked the shipper, he couldnt be sure, but thought it to be a weak cascade.

Hopes this helps ya
I've brewed: Oktoberfest, Belgian Tripple, Summer Ale (Keiths Clone), Home Brewed Ginger Ale, Rory's Red Irish Ale, Honey Brown, Russian Imperial Stout, Krölsch

I know this reviving dead topic, but did you ever end up harvesting these hops dgenerrick? I saw these the other day and was really interested in brewing with them, as an experiment of course.

I chatted with Halifax Seed and they said they are just for aesthetic so I'm not sure how comfortable they would be if I picked a few oz for brewing.

Thanks!

Somebody may have picked a few but for the most part it looks like they were left to dry on the bine. Here's a pic of them taken on Monday....

I was only going to make a 1 gallon batch so wouldn't need a huge amoung, only around 8-10oz I'd say.

I'm sure you could pick through them to find that many still in decent shape but the bulk of them are way past their prime :cheers2:
