On the 7th Day you Drink - Mr. Beer on Steroids

An interesting little gadget, but it looks like it takes all the fun out of brewing. I only see this thing working for a narrow selection of beer styles (and with their recipe kits).

Personal Brewery
"Result: Tastes like commercial beer"
Homebrewing
"Result: Tastes like homebrew"

If someone told me my beer tased like commercial beer, I'd take it as an insult, because really what they are trying to say is "this takes like any other mass produced fizzy yellow water and I am impressed that you can make something so generically bland and tasteless."

Does it use magnets? ;)

This thing appears to be an extract version of the mighty Braumeister:

They are both very different things. The willamswarn is just one sweet ass pressurized temperature controlled conical fermenter. While the braumeister is a semi automated one vessel all grain brewing system. Combined they would make quite the personal automated brewery. If I was rich I would get one of each.

That I would buy (if I had $6000), cuz you still have to make the beer to put into the kegerator.

I wounder if they'd make it with the old Star Wars coin-op game?

There's a guy out Peggy's Cove way that owns Fox Mill and he has some of the Braumeister fermenters but uses them for various oils and other things that he presses. I was over there looking at them but his english is awful and I'm not sure how much they actually cost... I figure they can't be any less than a conical in which case I would never really consider bothering with one.

Well I guess here's my answer on cost http://morebeerpro.com/view_product/118 ... _Fermenter

A bit big for homebrewing anyhow really!

The braumeister fermenters are just regular stainless steel vessels. The Braumeister is single vessel all grain brewery, the 200L micro/nano brewery version is $14,500, I think I seen the home version somewhere for around $5000. Its a really neat design, there is a removable grain "basket" inside that seals to the bottom and has a false top and bottom, in the ~2" gap around the outside has the heating elements which acts as your HLT/RIMS vessel, the water/wort is pumped from the outside to the bottom of the inside where it flows up through the grain and then overflows into the outer part. Its kinda like an upside down mash tun. Then for sparging the basket is raised and the wort simply drips out through the bottom. Once the basket is removed the full thing becomes one big boil kettle. I've grabbed most of this from a german youtube video, I couldn't understand a word of it, so I might have some of this wrong.

I really want to try and build my own version of this. I would add some sort of manifold for fly sparging to the top of the basket and a motorized winch to lift the grain basket out very slowly. The big problem I see with the design as is, is that with the wort being pumped up through the grain bed and then dripping back through after, dose not effectively use the grist as a filter.

This project is a long ways off. I need to learn how to weld and then learn to weld stainless... and have money to buy the materials and equipment... someday.

Yeah that's about right. I watched the video as well with the sound off. Peter (owner of Fox Mill) I think ordered his stuff direct from Germany at a lower cost. If I understood him correctly... haha

That is totally K.E.W.L. It's probably illegal to own anywhere in Canada, as it suggests acceptance of both underage drinking, and driving and drinking! MADD would picket your house, at the very least!

I'm sure they'd do it with any game you wanted.

Has anyone built a successful Braumeister clone out of a keggle?

Its a pretty difficult build, you need to have an inner basket seal to the bottom of the kettle and have the heating elements outside of that. A keggle is pretty narrow and doesn't have a flat bottom. I would think you would need a bigger diameter outer kettle and have a flat bottom so a keggle is out.

A single vessel rims could be built in a keggle fairly easily which would be very similar except the water would flow down through the mash rather than up as in the braumeister. I would design it with a removable heating element for the boil that would only be put in after the grain basket is removed. This system would be able to rinse the grains after the grain basket is lifted off the bottom of the keggle. The more I think about it, this is the direction I want to take my brewery.
