Round 2 of kijiji freezers has landed, this time ... it actually works! (sub in Richard Hamond's voice from top gear uk)
Its a Frigidaire 8cu ft that got frost on the inside within an hour of being plugged in. just playing around, with an 8x10 collar i should be able to get a minimum of 6, possibly 7 kegs in it. The question that now arises is how do i attach a collar to the lid instead of the body of the chest freezer. I'm only a short guy (5'6 ish) and I'm an accountant so lets face it, I'm not going to win a strong man competition any time soon, and the thought of having to lift a full keg an additional 9 - 10 inches without the assistance of a step stool or fork lift is daunting. Is this something that can be done with a product like no more nails, or will this have to be screwed in? Also would you suggest trying to reuse the original seal on the bottom of the collar or just go for some weather stripping?

Common man, think like an engineer! Jack hammer out your basement floor so it lower's the freezer 9-10 inches

There are lots of threads on keezer collars on the google.

put a pulley on the ceiling... then just use a rope with a hook on it to raise/lower your kegs.... easy-peasy.

The pulley system is actually not a bad idea, the jackhammer would also be fun, but would require me actually having a basement

Again your not thinking like an engineer, build a basement so you can jackhammer it out

step stool and lift the kegs in there. If you go the route of collar attached to lid, then you're gonna have to figure out hinges.

I saw a thread from a smaller guy on HBT who used a winch/pulley/arm system to move heavy objects around, including hot keggles!

What do you guys think of this? Looks like a fairly simple approach but i'm worried about the space between the doors would leak cold air like a sieve.

The hoist / pulley idea would be nice but this might be a less expensive alternative.
Also remind me never to hire liver dance if i'm building something big and running out of time. I can see the response now "See what you do is get a crap load of rockets, and fire them in the opposite direction of the earth and the earth will slow down enough for you to finish in time"

Just kidding buddy

That would work ok, just put weather stripping all around the door. I would build it out from the freezer so that is functions like a fridge door and compresses the weather strip the whole way around. I would also build the full thing from 2" closed cell foam and then cover it with a veneer of nice wood on the outside and some sort of plastic on the inside.

Here's an inspirational thread if you don't already have it bookmarked. 267 pages of keezers and kegorators. Some interesting collar designs too.
