Grain mill setting
Just got a grain mill from Dave so it seemed like a good time to ask about the gap setting. I've read a bit and there was even a little discussion on here with a previous thread but I haven't come across a concensus. The factory setting on the Barley Crusher is 0.039 and the default setting on the mill I bought is 0.050. What is your preferred setting? Thanks.

I don't know the numbers, but someone mentioned that a credit card will fit between theirs
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My Barley Crusher is set at 0.038. Works great for my BIAB setup.

Leafman, how did you measure the slot? I'm thinking about picking up a barley crusher.LeafMan66_67 wrote:My Barley Crusher is set at 0.038. Works great for my BIAB setup.

I have a set of feeler gauges for measuring.

You can usually pick them up pretty cheap at CT.LeafMan66_67 wrote:I have a set of feeler gauges for measuring.

Re: Grain mill setting
I've been setting mine to credit card width (0.030in), single crush. I seem to be getting around 77% mash efficiency for a 1.060 beer using 2-step batch sparge. The efficiency seems to go up by about 2% if I double crush.
Next time I plan on conditioning my grain to see how that works out.

Re: Grain mill setting
I was setting mine with a CC also but was only getting 65% with a 60 minute mash. I got 72% with a 90 minute mash (all at 151F) My mill also was only at 127RPMs so it was not exactly gobbling the grain either.
