How would a Ranco temperature probe insert into the thermowell? Does it just slide in, or is there some way to attach it?

I think the diameter of the probe is good, so it should just slide right in to the bottom of the well. Depending on what they send you for the well, you may want to get an electrical connection to keep it in place securely.

Is there a normal style outlet that I should be using? I plan on installing a new outlet for the electric brewery, but don't know if it matters what style I go with? The control box comes standard with an L14-30, but it says other options are available if required.

Is an L14-30 a standard outlet that I should stick with?

Twist locks like that are nice, commonly used on generators. If you want very common household style, a dryer plug mayb.

Either should be easy to find

L14-30 is nice for twist lock. 14-30R is a typical dryer type plug. Receptacle kits for dryer are easy to get.

I would go with the standard dryer receptacle, and if it was me running a new circuit, I'd up the power to range.

Range outlet instead of dryer (40/50A). I ran 50A to mine.

What's the reason for that? Will the element take the full 30A on it's own?

A different receptacle is required for a 50A outlet, is it not?

5500W/240V = 22.9A

I ran 50A so I can run multiple elements. If your wiring a dedicated outlet it may be worth doing it now so that you have options for the future (but thats up to you).

Yea, They're different.

I was speaking with Brewha this afternoon, and it looks like they up-sized this thing. They've changed the volume to 80 liters (21 gallons) in order to accommodate 10 gallon BIAC (or BIAB). :headbang:

This is the colander they sell:

That sounds a perfect size. I get along nicely with my 20Gal Blichmann pot for full volume BIAB, 10 gal batches.

Are you worried about the dead space under the colander reducing efficiency a bit? Could recirculate a bit if wanted to, in order to negate that.

Jimmy, It occurred to me, that since you can pressurise that thing a bit, you could connect it to CO2 at 4 psi, and you’d have damn close to real ale, put a spout on the tap and pour it straight from there. You could even cool it to cellar temperature with the jacket. Just a thought.

Granted, it would hold up the next brew, but on the plus side real ale isn't usually aged.

I've yet to try real ale, but not sure I'd want to tie up the fermenter for until I drink 10g worth of beer.

I wouldn't mind trying to make a real ale sometime, though. Maybe take half a batch and keg condition..

I am thinking I could ditch my hlt by using an immersion element in my new conical...serves three purposes.

What do you mean?

Obviously it would serve as a HLT and conical - were you thinking about using it as a BK too?

Just ditching hlt:

1. One less vessel.
2. Using conical as HLT sterilizes conical.
3. Forgot, hahahahhahaaa

Get a conical, put an element in it, a cooling coil and hookups for a whirlpool, drain the hops and trub off the bottom, clamp the lid down after a couple of weeks, hook up CO2 at 4 PSI, cool to cellar temp with the coil, and pour yourself a beer or two from the tap.

Then get another conical, and you'll always have great beer, with a minimum of fuss and nonsense.

I'm being told this comes with non-retention ball valves..anyone know what a non-retention, or zero-retention ball valve is? Does it mean that it doesn't retain liquid inside the ball?

I know the valve can be disassembled via a triclover attachment but don't think it's referring to that? The valve looks similar to this - you undo the triclover attachment and the internals come out:
