Re: The Conical Thread
Yeah I saw he has the sampling valves as well. I'm in the same boat as RubberToe, I don't have enough room in my fridge to add a T-fitting to the top. I can only open the top cover about 6-8 inches when it's in the fridge. I was thinking about getting a stopper with 2 holes drilled in it and adding a thermowell and blow off tube/airlock, I have an inkbird itc-308 with a 12" probe so it's kind of long to use on the outside (bought it through the discounted deal on Amazon recently, would have preferred the 1.5" one but they were all claimed). I see Dave sells the stopper with the 2 holes and a 15" thermowell, but it might get a little hard to use with the tight space in my fridge.

Re: The Conical Thread
For you guys that bought the butterfly valves from the guy in Charlottetown on ebay. Did they come with some pretty strong smelling oil on them? The box mine came in had a couple oil stains and the valves have some oil on them in by the butterfly gate. Just wondering if this is normal or are my valves leaking oil?

It's normal, take them apart and clean them good.

Re: The Conical Thread
Do you mean to actually take apart the two halves? As in remove all the allen head screws holding the two parts together and clean inside?

Sorry, I had a brain fart.
I was thinking about my tc ball valves that are held together with a triclamp. Woops.
Yeah just clean it well, you'll be fine.

Re: The Conical Thread
Anyone have any experience with plastic conicals from plastic mart? The price is certainly right.

Re: The Conical Thread
if you need 15 gallons the price is right but after taking into account the price of the stand, shipping, exchange rate, and fittings it's a lot more than 70 bucks.

Re: The Conical Thread
Hi Guys, Just picked one of these Group buy Conicals from a member.
Couple of quick questions.
What is the threaded nut opposite the handle on the stock valves for?
Is there a source for the replacement gaskets I have read so much about on this thread?
I was thinking I would have to buy butterfly valves but the stock ones look pretty easy to clean. What do those who have stuck with stock valves think?
Anyone tried making or purchasing one of the 'mason Jar Yeast collecting vessels I have read about online? I have been using fastferments and really like the ability to dump the trub so I can add bottling sugar direct to the fermenter before bottling (I do both kegging and bottling). I like the way the trub settles into the collector and would think dumping direct from the bottom valve (ie not having it settle into the bottle first) would mean more left behind in the cone so stirring would mean more to settle out when bottling. Any thoughts?

Re: The Conical Thread
Any of you owners interested in a Yeast harvesting jar for your conical?
I was about to order one of these and thought if a group buy was possible could save some shipping.

He has some other interesting fittings too.
