End of June. I was in touch with them today. That's one of the items I'm getting as well.

You're ordering it now, or are you waiting until they are in stock?

Yeah, I'll likely order at a later date, once I find out if it's something I really need.

I took Jimmy's ball apart on the pit and it had some funk growing inside. Heat may not cut it. I'll be taking mine apart for a cleaning before each use.

Have got my conical kitted out with most of what I want and built a stand to raise it up to make it easier to rack into kegs. The only thing(s) left to add are a long-ass (probably 20") thermowell for to go in the T at the top when I figure out what I'm going to do for temperature control. For now, the cool basement will do.

Where'd you get the 90 degree elbow and sample valve?

Did you pressure test it yet?

Nope, not sure it'll hold pressure with the way the gasket is near the back of the lid. I think it's tight enough that nothing will get in but I doubt it'll hold pressure.

From the same guy on the Island that was selling the butterfly valves. Not listed on his eBay page, but just send him a message with what you're looking for.

RubberToe, how'd you get along with the first batch in your conical? Any issues?

I think the hardware weighs as much as the conical does.

My only problems are:

1) Brewershardware are slow as fuck, took over 2 weeks to even ship out order. I had to prod them why - 1 out of stock part. If they would have been up front about it, would have make it easier.

2) The order has been in customs since the 18th. Assholes! :)

3) I chose a yeast that seems to be slow as fuck. Tomorrow it will be two weeks in the conical and I'll check the gravity in the morning. If I'm happy it will get a cold crash for a few days and then keg, if not then more waiting. Denny's Favorite 50 / WY1450 in a Brown Ale. Lots of special roast and the samples have been tasty.

It would be nice to have the BH order come in as it will make transfering to the keg way easier. Otherwise I'll have to rack from the top assuming my cane will fit in the fridge.

I did a couple of trub dumps so far and it went well. Spraying the butterfly valves with alcohol, covering them with the plastic covers that came with the valves for now. It's hard to tell the yeast from the rest of the trub with a dark beer but I guess I'm a conical newb. After I cold crash I'll try to save yeast in case anyone wants to try it.

For my next batch through the conical it'll probably be the Stone yeast (WLP007), Pacman, or Conan.

Noticing today that my lid definitely doesn't hold pressure (have a batch fermenting in the conical now). Has anyone come up with any ideas for getting a better seal with the lid? I was thinking about maybe getting some additional silicon and creating a second gasket to hopefully close the gap.

That's one idea that crossed my mind. Fill in the rim with sealant, and grease the rolled lip, or cover with plastic wrap, and come down on the crank, but not all of the way, until set. My other idea is a ring or two of goretex gasket. Possibly over top of a skim of sealant.

Goretex, but it may have worked without. Grinding out the locking arm gave me a fair increase in torque.
