SO here is my main question, i bought a can of malt extract, brew canada canadian light beer.. in the instructions it says you can leave it in the primary fermentor untill bottleing day, instead of racking to the secondary. Wondering if anyone has done this? and if its worth it to do or not? i have the brew belt on it as well, because my basement isnt to warm right now, and the upstairs in my house is torn apart, now the brew belt says DO NOT put on the carboy, so can i just leave it all in the primary and let it go? Wondering if anyone has any insights? what\s the worst that could happen?
keep i mind im brand new to all this, please take pitty on me.

I primary ferment only. Typically keg after 10 days.

Unless you are in a hurry and can't wait for some reason, I would leave it in the primary for 2-3 weeks (I do this at minimum) to let the yeast clean up any fermentation by products and allow the beer to start to clear up. You can cold crash it if you want to speed up the sedimentation process (I would wait until after day 14 or so to do this). If you don't wait or at least cold crash and went ahead and bottled at day ten you will end up with a ton of yeast in the bottles which can lead to off flavors, haze, excessive foaming when you open your beer (due to all the nucleation sites) and unless you like the taste of yeast, you waste a lot of beer at the bottom of every bottle. Just my 2 cents.patman wrote:I don't have a keg system just yet, i eventually want to get to that, but can i primary for 10 or so days and then bottle?

Re: home brewing questions
good plan, my last batch, also first had a bit of stuff about 1/3rd of th ebottles.. ill leave this one untill the 10th of june, then put in bottles.. I think i am going to try a fiesta kit next, just so i cover all my basis.. and to get the hang of everything before i make my way to eventually going to an all grain batch.Ladd wrote:Unless you are in a hurry and can't wait for some reason, I would leave it in the primary for 2-3 weeks (I do this at minimum) to let the yeast clean up any fermentation by products and allow the beer to start to clear up.
