Sanke Keg Cleaning

Post by Juniper Hill » Sat Jun 14, 2014 1:11 pm

Hey Guys,

I picked up some Sankes a few months back, and now need to clean them out. I've got a D coupler and the gear to pressurize. Any advice re cleaning? I was planning to take the valves out after depressurizing.

Cheers,

Neil

Thanks Rob. Where would I get caustic (?soda)? Do I soak the spears in it as well?

Look for lye(sodium hydroxide). Not sure where to get it retail, but I know it is out there. I would wash everything.

How do you safely dispose of hot caustic/lye?
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I also use sanke kegs the ones I got were quite dirty with beer stone. I tryed a bunch of different methods of cleaning it out but I found a good soak with hot water and PBW worked great and its supposed to be environmentally friendly. I have no experience with hot caustic though so I can't really comment on it. But my kegs are spotless now.
