Intra-batch consistency
I've actually been wondering this for awhile and have noticed this with several batches. I made an IPA, turned out really nice but some of the bottles are great and some the hop flavour is a little more subtle or doesn't quite taste like the same beer. Let's assume that it's not a problem with bottle cleanliness (it could be but I'm pretty anal about that). What are the reasons for the same batch to taste different from bottle to bottle? Man, I have to start kegging!

Different storage temperatures? (were some exposed to warmer temperatures), Different light exposure? Time? More air got in some bottles?
Leave a glass of beer for a few minutes in the sun and that will do it.

How do you prime your batches for bottling? To get better distribution of your sugar in the bottling bucket you should boil it in some water then put it in the bucket and then beer on top of that if you don't already. After all the beer is in give it a few gentle stirs before bottling.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

That's how I prime my bottles. I am usually quite paranoid about over stirring that I may not stir enough I suppose. I store them all in the same place. There is a variability with how much space I leave at the top of a bottle but not much, I will pay attention if there is a taste difference there. Reason # 1126 to keg I suppose.

I don't regret moving to kegs. Saves time, is more enjoyable compared to bottling, and well it's a great conversation piece.Broob wrote: Reason # 1126 to keg I suppose.
