Modern Times Beer

Post by GasMD30 » Thu Jul 24, 2014 5:48 pm

Don't know if you guys have heard of this company, but I am impressed that each description of the beer they sell comes with a link to a homebrew recipe. Kind of cool!

I've had all four of their regular line-up beers, plus a couple of one-offs.

And, just FYI... the Fortunate Islands recipe makes an amazing beer! One of the better beers I've ever brewed.

Their recipes are from the same guy that runs the mad fermentationist blog and author of american sours. He went out and helped setup the brewery and brew the test batches and travels there a couple times a year.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

That's so cool!

I wish more places would do what they do (but then again, why buy their beer when you can make it?!)

Or ...why make it when you can buy it? :)
