Azacca Hops

Post by GasMD30 » Wed Sep 24, 2014 11:54 am

Has anyone used Azacca or tried beer with it? It sounds tasty and that it'd go well with my HIPA

It's one of the big new hops this year, apparently. I actually have some here, and was planning on brewing a Saison with mostly Azacca this weekend.... my attempt at cloning Oxbow's Grizacca.

Haven't used them myself, but I've had Grizacca a few times. Very delicious beer.

Don't have any notes on that beer unfortunately. Without one in front of me, it's tough to be accurate from memory but I remember the hop character being very much along the lines of the newer NZ hops, i.e. very tropical/dark citrus fruit.

When I tried it (I, too, loved it), I could have sworn it was hopped with Nelson Sauvin.

Apparently my brain was turned off and I was paying absolutely no attention to the name of the beer.

But, it WAS very similar.

That sounds like a great hop. I've been meaning to post this before but may as well now while we're on the subject. Where does everybody buy some of these harder to come by hops? Azaaca, Nelson Sauvin, Galaxy, Mosaic etc
Red Five Brewery
Anchorhead Steam
Boba Fest
Carbonate ChAmber Ale
Chewbocka
Darklighter Stout
Episode V - ESB
Hoth 45

Does sound like a great hop. I was wondering where to find them also.

I got sent some hops with my Poolside Blonde medal. Some kind of prize. Does anyone know anything about them?

I've bought all four of those varieties over the past year.I often go through Yakima Valley Hops - I have a PO Box in Houlton; my mother-in-law lives in Woodstock so it's never an issue for her to pick stuff up.

Strisselspalt is a traditional french hop, good in french and belgian ales. Have been wanting to try it in a saison, suppose to give blackcurrant flavours.

I've ordered Galaxy and Nelson from hops direct, bit expensive to ship to Canada, cheaper if you get it shipped to the hardware store in Calais.
