LME has stuff in it....

Post by GillettBreweryCnslt » Sun Jun 12, 2011 1:03 pm

Hey,

Just a general question. I noticed yesterday as I was boiling some lme to make a yeast starter that it had a lot of small white particles in it. I've never noticed this before and I wonder if it is happening as my lme is aging (it's only a couple months old), if its some kind a crazy contamination, or if it's always been there and as I've always mixed it in with lots of grain bits I've never noticed. Anyone have any thoughts?

I may be a bit paranoid as the but brown ale I'm drinking now never cleared. However it was a heavy grain bill, and I didn't add irish moss to the boil to help things precipitate.

Thanks

Dave

Maybe the problem is that you are drinking something called But Brown Ale.

Sorry, I'm no help.

I can't think of anything off hand either. All I can tell you is that I keep my LME is the coldest possible area of the house to keep any possible bugs to a minimum.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Yeah, Its in the basement on the floor, so it stays at about 12C. The more I think about it the more I think it's just pieces of barley. I'm doing up a straight IPA tonight so I'll see how it goes.
