Beer Line Cleaning

Post by Bluefin 774 » Sun Nov 02, 2014 3:11 pm

Hey gang,

I currently have two kegs with picnic taps. I work away from home for three weeks at a time. I disconnect and clean my lines before I leave. When I returned this time, one of my beer lines had mold growth in it. I think I may have forgotten to sanitise with Star San and just rinsed with water and stored it. I replaced the line with a new one and cleaned and sanitized the picnic tap.

Can I leave the beer lines attached while I'm away or should I remove them ? How do you clean, sanitize and store your beer lines ? I plan to get some Perlick 630 SS taps very soon to put in my fridge door.

Any suggestions would be great, Thanks. :cheers:
Take care, Bluefin.

I leave mine connected and remove the guts of the tap and connector to rince and sanatize.

I leave mine connected with the last sanitary liquid that passed through them. Every couple months I flush my entire system (including air lines) with warm starsan

If you leave your lines connected it is far less prone to issues. Just an extension of an enclosed system that way.

Not a big fan of cleaning and sanitizing lines myself. Just change them when they start to taste off. Be surprised how little it happens and how much cheaper, easier and faster.

^This. I find that I personally my time is worth more than a few bucks to replace the lines every so often. When I decide to change them I dissemble and clean my taps as well.

Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chamber of my brain -

Come to life and fade away;
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today." ~ Poe

This is a thumb/cobra tap system. Taking the tap apart is a twist and a screwdriver on the conector.

Very little time.

I just upgraded my lines from 4' to 10'. I'd rather run hot PBW, and star san through along with a line brush than replace those damn 3/16" lines on 5 taps. Spent way too much time doing that last night... Got it done and the beer pours alot better. No more excessive foaming.
