Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
I just ran out of CO2, Friday night. Luckily had 1 keg over carbed and on a closed circuit and was able to pour out two for company.
Anyone know of a place tonight or on the weekend to get this filled?

Exchange at NG? My spare is empty, otherwise you could have taken that.Keith wrote:I just ran out of CO2, Friday night. Luckily had 1 keg over carbed and on a closed circuit and was able to pour out two for company.

If you are stuck, I can lend you my 9oz tank and adapter. It needs a fill though (NG)Keith wrote:I just ran out of CO2, Friday night. Luckily had 1 keg over carbed and on a closed circuit and was able to pour out two for company.

I got an exchange through noble grape. 22.50 plus tax. Works to be the less than other places due to the gas I'd use.

Yeah, that's a pretty good price.

Especially considering it took me 20 minutes round trip. Plus I someone was asking questions about Festa kits and getting into brewing. May have converted someone while I was there.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
What is the best and most economical place in the St. John's / Mount Pearl area of Newfoundland to get a new 5 lb. C02 cylinder filled ? I am just getting into kegging now, been home brewing for a while. I want to keg in about a week as my beer will be ready then.
Thanks, Bluefin 774

Frontline Paintball just opened a new store on Topsail Road and they will fill CO2 tanks also. I called and the guy said $33 tax in for a 5lb tank.

Just to keep the data somewhat fresh...
Got a 5lb filled at DB on Friday. Filled while I waited, $18.98.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
Thanks for the update, I've edited the first post.
Both LD and I blew our 20lb tanks, plus his 5lb, so we're going to get some up to date data for big tanks at DBs and 5lb at Simplex (I think at 10lb and above DBs is the best deal, 5lb is Simplex). If you don't care about location, which is how I am.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
Simplex seems to be coming on hard on NS. A lot of new vehicles down at the mill doing work. Don Brenton's probably feeling some heat.
I might see if they have some kind of corporate discount that I could swing into the Brewnosers.

That would be great! I think Leafsman had chatted with them previously for CO2, but if we were able to piggyback on a larger discount, that would help.

For pure convenience for me in Sackville. NG tank exchange was the way to go. I think it was in around $22.50 for a 5lb tank. 5 minutes up the road and could exchange at 7:50pm on a Friday night.

Thanks, I've updated the post. I'm using pre-tax numbers for everything, I believe.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
Just had my 20lb tank hydro tested and filled at DB today.
Hydro = $22.50
Fill = $23.75
O-Ring = $1.50
All prices before tax.
Dropped off Tuesday, he said he would get it done Wednesday, and he called Wednesday afternoon, all finished. I think was all because of the hydro test requirement.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
Hey Guys, and I hope Gals,
So I would like to start Kegging but I am trying to figure out the details before I commit to buying a kegging system.. And I suspect that I will not find any CO2 tank refilling in Miramichi. So my question is how long to the various size tanks last for you. I go to moncton every once in a while wouldn't want to have to run there monthly just to fill up co2.
thanks!

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
there are ways to conserve CO2. Keg priming instead of force carbing and being fussy about your connections and seals are the 2 easiest.

Re: CO2 tank refilling and hydro-testing
how many 19 liter kegs would a 5 lb co2 tank carbonate?
or am i asking the wrong question.. how long do your co2 tanks usually last.
I have been thinking about carbonating and then bottling and or just having some on tap.
I am just tired of the taste of too much yeast in by beer after carbonating through fermentation.

I'll normally get 7 kegs to a 5lb co2.
